Years ago, I bought a craft book on a sale table and never made anything out of it. I remember looking through all the pages, eww-ing and ahh-ing at all the lovely crafts and ideas on the page. Years later and I've finally started making my own crafts and it has been pretty fantastic.
When I went back through that book, I found a DIY for etched glasses and after reading through it, decided it was awesome and so easy! I'll let you know how...
After you muddle over what you want the picture to be, use a photo of it as a stencil. I chose to use a picture of lips and a mustache that I simply printed from Google images. I wouldn't chose anything too challenging if it's your first time, something that doesn't have too many sections. Tape it to your sticky stencil sheet.
Using an exacto knife, carefully cut along the outside of the picture.
Stick the stencil onto your glass. This is a bit challenging, make sure to take the time to press all the edges down securely.
Gob your etching cream onto the stencil. I really mean gob it on. Make sure it is thick and even for an even coating. Also, make sure the cream doesn't run past the stencil! Leave on for a few minutes, 3-5 maybe.
Now, run the glasses under warm water to wash off the excess cream. It's a bit scary, like you are washing away all your fine work. But don't worry, It's still there. Wash with soap and water before using. The glasses are hand wash only, I haven't put mine in the dishwasher but don't plan on it either.
Hopefully yours will be a bit more even than mine! Drink up!
