5 Things I'm Loving Right Now

I can safely say that I've been struggling to write this post for weeks now. Not really sure why, it really shouldn't be too hard to come up with 5 things but here we are. We did it.

We're still living in perpetual winter time over here in Philadelphia, but I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that it will finally stop snowing and start heating up a bit. Thankfully, we have had 2 decent Saturdays in a row, which has helped clear my head and shaken up my usual routine. It's amazing what a little fresh air, some sunshine, and being with friends can do for you.

Button-down shirts: I'm currently having a love affair with colorful or patterned button-down shirts. I haven't been purchasing a lot of clothing lately, but I've been making an exception for a good button down. I think my obsession started when I purchases this around christmas time, then a vintage one from a consignment shop, and then bought this pj shirt a few weekends ago. Tucked into high waisted skinny jeans has been my uniform lately.

LipSense: I know I've included this on another 5 Things I'm Loving list, but after years of trying to find a longwear lipstick that would actually work for me (liquid lipsticks always wear off the center of my lips no matter what brand), a friend recommended LipSense and it's a GAME CHANGER. I purchase from Becka at Feeling Fancy Shop and she's incredibly responsive, helpful, and super sweet. If you're looking for a lipstick that actually wears for 5+ hours—through drinking and tacos and sweating—give LipSense a try.

IGK Hair Products: So, you definitely know by now that I love a good dry shampoo. I think I've talked about dry shampoo in several of these 5 Things posts, all different brands, but today we are diving a little deeper. I'm pretty particular about hair products because my hair doesn't always agree with them. I look for products that give volume and keep my hair looking fresh without weighing my hair down or building up so that it gets greasy. After hearing a ton of great things about IGK, I tried a bunch of different products and loved all of them. Jet Lag and Direct Flight are awesome dry shampoos for bringing my hair back to life (I think I prefer Direct Flight since it's a little more intense). Expensive is an AMAZING deep conditioner. And I recently tried a tester of Mistress while out and about on Saturday and I can't stop thinking about it. I think I feel a new obsession going on...

Black Denim Jacket: Before we left for our trip to Nepal, I picked up this denim jacket and have been wearing it ever since. I have a lot of tighter cropped jackets and this slightly oversized one is perfect for layering or a more casual look. Plus, because it's black I can wear it with jeans without looking like I'm in full denim.

Fake Plants: I know, I know. But sometimes you just need a fake plant! Because our house has houses on either side of it, we only have windows on the front and back of our house. So, the middle just doesn't get enough light for real plants. I've tried countless times and killed them all. So among my real plants, there's a few fake ones in places where you can't get to close to spot the fakers. They just add a little something something to the space without me having to worry about them. Win, win!

Around Here

Hello friends!

I stopped posting Around Here posts a while back since my house wasn't changing too much. This is the longest I've lived somewhere since my childhood home, and somehow I'm not tired of it yet. Maybe it's because since G moved in last year we've been doing a lot of changes. Or maybe because other parts of my life have been hectic that having this restful place has been a relief. Whatever it is, it's nice to keep improving on a home.

I've been struggling a bit with a creative block that I can't seem to get through, hence the lack of blog posts. I was sick most of last week, had a series of busy weeks at work, and just can't bring myself to work on anything that I don't absolutely need to. Does that ever happen to you? I'm always on the look out for ways to motivate my brain, spark some creativity, and light a fire under myself. How do you stay motivated when you aren't feeling your best?

Sometimes it just feels like the weekends are getting shorter and shorter, you know?

But I'm here with a little bit of exciting news: this weekend I moved G into my house! The timing just worked out and we're really excited and happy about the whole thing. The hardest adjustment for me has been the influx of things and trying to figure out where to put them in a way that works for both of us. It takes time and I know we'll get there. Honestly, it's nice to have a challenge and some changes around the house. All in all, we're pretty excited about this new chapter. And the cats have a new full-time cuddle partner.

So I thought it would be fun to share some photos from around the house before things change around here. When these photos were taken (last week) we had only moved in a handful of G's things and had them set up. Excited to see how the house ends up! And also, very excited to take down Halloween decorations (Am I the only one who loves decorations until I don't and then I can't wait to take them down?)

Around Here

This is the first Spring I've had in a long time where I'm not frantically searching for a new place to live. I can't tell you how exciting that is for me. When I think back on the different apartments I've lived in, each place seems to signify where I was at that point in my life and I'm happy to be staying in this one life phase for a little while longer. I'm taking that as a good sign that I'm where I'm suppose to be at this moment in time.

These photos were taken prior to a big cleaning that I did in my bedroom. That giant cardboard box you can see in the first photo, which has been in that exact spot filled with random stuff I didn't know what to do with since I moved in last July, is finally emptied and gone. Those random hats have been added to my hat wall area. My suitcase, which has been sitting empty since I unpacked from Chicago, has made it back to the basement. Outside, my plants are in pots and actually doing pretty good I think! Flowers on the tomato plants and will need to be staked soon because they are growing so much.

On the to-do list is painting the bedframe in my spare bedroom (this has been on my to-do list for months!). I recently spoke to my dad about bleaching the entire deck out back since it's pretty mildewy. I bought some strands of outside lights to hang up and I'm ordered some temporary wallpaper samples to do the back wall in my kitchen (!!!). But it feels good. My house really feels like home to me and I feel good about the choices I've made each time I go home. Feeling good!

5 Things I'm Loving Right Now

The weather this week is getting me down. It's been cold and rainy in the Philadelphia area for about two weeks. I'm lacking focus and energy to get things done. Currently feeling like I'm in a creative rut and don't feel like spending any time in my kitchen except to heat up frozen pizza. It's spring in the city and I want to be eating brunch outside and walking to the water ice place after work. Hopefully we'll see a break from the dreary weather sometime soon though (looking like maybe next week, fingers crossed)!

So Here's 5 Things I'm Loving Right Now:

  1. I bought a Scooter! After dreaming about riding a scooter around the city since before I even moved here, I finally have my own. A friend was selling this beauty and asked if I was interested. After hemming and hawing about it for a day or two, I decided that it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. I mean, look how cute she is outside my house!
  2. New phone case. I recently upgraded my phone (yay!!) and needed a new case to go with. I picked up this Glitter Bomb case from Ban.do, which I purchased from PaperSource, and it's just so good. The rose gold with the gold glitter is a dream and I've received several compliments already!
  3. My glasses. I've owned these Bonlook glasses for a few years now and though I've always loved them, I go through phases where I rarely wear them outside of the house. For the past couple of weeks I've really been embracing them and wearing them almost everyday, which is a fun change. I also own and love these frames and I'm really itching to buy these...
  4. G and I have been rewatching the last season of Veep so that we can watch the new season that airing currently! Really makes me laugh out loud.
  5. Cleaning my house. Keeping my house clean can be a struggle for me. I'm either great at keeping up with it and make time to do a little every day or so, or I forget for weeks and it starts to feel overwhelming. For the past two weeks, cleaning my house has been relaxing and productive. I've moved some junk out and either thrown it away or donated it. I'm keeping up with the dishes and vacuuming. Hoping this feeling lingers for a while.
